About The Old Pueblo
Tucson, the home of The University of Arizona, is located over 2,500 feet above sea level in the Sonoran Desert and surrounded by six mountain ranges.
To the north are the Santa Catalina Mountains with Mount Lemmon, its highest peak, at an elevation of 9,157 feet above sea level. To the east, just past Redington Pass, you'll find the Rincon Mountains, then southeast of Tucson are the Santa Rita Mountains. Just west of Green Valley, southeast of Tucson, is the Sierritas Mountain range. Then west of the city are the Tucson Mountains. Finally on the northern boundaries of Marana and Oro Valley you'll find the rugged peaks and canyons forming the Tortolitas.
Although a resident, when asked, will tell you that he lives in Tucson, he might actually live in Marana, Oro Valley, Catalina, Sahuarita, South Tucson, Green Valley or Tucson itself. All are located in Pima County and make up the Metro-Tucson area. Whichever community you call home, with an average of over 340 sunny days per year, one thing is certain: It's a great place to live, work and play.
